Hi Kelly!

By Kelly

I read your article “Lick, Bite & Chew His Paws” in the Happy Herald that was delivered to the village hall in Palm Springs.
When I divorced in 2004, I didn’t get the house or the money; I got Molly. Molly the Maltese was born on June 8th, 2000. She had no problems to speak of until 2009.
• In 2009, she began constantly licking her paws and biting them until they bleed. I have to put a cone on her head when I leave home and when she sleeps with me.
• She also breaks out in little pimples on her butt and scoots to relieve the itching. It is not the anal glands, but she seems to always have that smell around her butt.
• She has a nasty, almost acidic smell when she gets wet.
• Her fur is not pink anywhere, and she does not have any of that brown gunk coming from her eyes. I clean her eyes every day.
• She has been treated numerous times for yeast infections.
Molly has seen two Vets about her problems, and both say allergies are the culprit. I’m not so sure. Both Vets have given her medicine for the wounds, but this is just a band-aid and not fixing the problem at the root.

Here is Molly’s diet. She weighs about 9.5lbs. Keep in mind that I have never owned a dog before and I’m a sucker for sad eyes.

Breakfast 5am
A bit of scrambled egg.
A little piece of toast w/peanut butter.
A little bite of a sweet roll, donut etc.

Brunch 10am
A mixture of Hill’s J/D & Z/D.
A couple of raw green beans.
A few pieces of raw potato.
A Royal Canin treat consisting of oats, rice and apple.

Lunch 1-2 pm
Chicken & rice (Hormel chicken in water from a can & rice boiled on my stove).
Something from what I happen to be eating for lunch that day…maybe a piece of bread from my sandwich, a piece of pasta, a french fry, a Dorito, Frito, Tostito, Cheeto, Potato chip, cracker, egg salad etc.
A little piece of cheese (cheese is used to hide any pill for her).
A little piece of cookie,
cake etc.
A little taste of pudding.
1/2 grape.

Supper 6 pm
A mixture of Hill’s J/D & Z/D.
A couple of raw green beans.
A few pieces of raw potato.
A couple of pieces of Romaine lettuce (yes, she loves lettuce).
A piece of cookie, cake, a dollop of ice cream etc.
