Fratelli’s Italian Restaurant A Passion for Tradition and Perfection

By Arnold Leir

Buzzing, animated and vibrant, Fratelli’s in Delray is a beautiful restaurant filled with dedicated food lovers out to have a great time. It’s a slice of Italy far removed from the hectic traffic of Atlantic Avenue. There is so much to enjoy whether at the manicured bar with its superb collection of top notch wines, mixed drinks and beers or at one of the comfortable booths and tables. The cozy space, dominated by warm brick arches and glamorous wood paneling, is made all the more inviting by the desire of proprietors Mario Maltese and Kasi Dibrani to thank all their loyal customers for their unending support over the past several years.

The opening basket of scrumptious garlic and plain rolls are an invitation to peruse the superlative collection of vintages available by the bottle and the glass. Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio (glass/$7.50) makes a perfect companion to every nibble.

When it comes to understanding the intricacies of each offering, the remarkable staff is there to guide you. Every recipe is part of an 80 year old collection brought over from Italy and reflects a rarely found sophistication.

Bright and fresh flavors are the hallmark of the Bruschetta ($10.99). Fresh Roma tomatoes share the space with sprightly red onions and fragrant basil touched with extra virgin olive oil. Cuts of toasted Italian bread and vibrant mesclun salad complete the ensemble.

Uniquely delectable salads are an important feature of the menu. Balsamic Chicken ($12.99) is a feast of grilled chicken, goat cheese, pine nuts partnered with crisp spinach leaves and tomatoes. Superb balsamic vinaigrette enlivens the ensemble topped with crispy strands of red onion.

From the mains, the intriguing Cacciatore ($16.99) brings together pan seared cutlets immerse in a aromatic toasted garlic tomato wine sauce overflowing with plump mushrooms, savory peppers and onions.

The rich and appealing Red Snapper Piccata ($24.99 is filled with imaginative touches that will delight every seafood aficionado. The fragile filet is sautéed in olive oil and roasted garlic before being bathed by a superlative Piccata Sauce.

There can be no finale finer than the in house crafted Tiramisu prepared from the most delectable ingredients. The small portion that we brought home vanished before the clock struck twelve.

Happy hour is available every day from 11am to 6 pm. Draft beer and wines are half price. Enjoy a unique Early Bird Special from 3 to 6 pm everyday: buy one entrée at regular price and get a second for only $5. For more information, log onto www.fratellisdelray.com
