Miller Legg Celebrates 50 Years

AND LENDS ITS HAND TO THE COMMUNITY

By Staff Writer

Assembling bikes and feeding swans may seem like unusual ways to celebrate a 50th anniversary, but the staff at Miller Legg thinks it is a perfect way to demonstrate one of its core values while giving back to the community.

Miller Legg, one of Florida’s oldest and most revered engineering consulting firms, will turn 50 on April 1, 2015, and in preparation, “Miller Leggers” launched a campaign to improve communities by donating hours to community service organizations in locations in which it has a presence.

A few examples include: assembling bikes for underprivileged children at the Moose Lodge in Central Florida; hosting a pizza party for foster children and teens living at Children’s Harbor, Pembroke Pines; donating toys to the Davie Emergency Assistance Service Effort (EASE) Foundation, Davie; and packing meals for the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County’s “Holidays without Hunger” event. In addition, more than 40 Miller Legg staff and family members participated in the first American Cancer Society (ACS) “Relay on the Runway” on the new south runway at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport. Since the program kicked-off in August 2014, more than 500 hours have been donated.

“It’s a lot of fun knowing that by giving our time, we’re providing something valuable to someone who needs a hand,” said Cara Pasquale, Director of Business Development. “We focus every day on doing our best work professionally. It’s good to remember that helping people in the community is just as important.”

“Selfie” photos sharing the latest community projects are posted on the firm’s Facebook page. The staff agrees that the most memorable so far is of the Miller Legg team walking along the new runway with commercial airliners arriving and departing above at “Relay on the Runway.”

“Charitable giving has always been part of our culture as reinforced by our tagline, ‘Improving Communities and Creating Environments,’” said David John, president and CEO of Miller Legg. “Throughout the years, we’ve continued to maintain a small-firm feel and a sense of family, and the hundreds of hours Miller Leggers are donating come as no surprise... we’re very proud of each of them.”
