Emil’s European Sausage Kitchen

Incomparable Sausages, Cold Cuts and More

By Arnold Leir

More than a century ago someone (not Bismarck) made a comparison between laws and sausages, a rather unkind link (no pun intended) because sausages are utterly delicious, especially those from Emil’s European Sausage Kitchen. I have never heard anyone call laws “delicious.”

Proprietors Walter and Jutta Voos have been crafting countless superlative sausages and other delicacies for decades, first in Pompano and now at their current location in Deerfield Beach.

Upon entering the store, we encountered two large display cases filled with platter after platter of homemade sausages, cold cuts, smoked meats , smoked salmon, stunning pates and more , all prepared on site by Walter and Jutta. What is most amazing, apart from the quality of the ingredients, is that every morsel has no preservatives, no fillers, no sugar, no nitrates or MSG. If you are ever in the mood to create the ultimate tailgate party, then a visit to Emil’s should be your first stop.

In 2016, the IFFA, the leading world-wide association for the meat industry, awarded three gold medals, one silver and one bronze for six outstanding Voos gourmet creations. The best proof of quality, of course, is feasting on a few platters of the Kitchen’s sublime treasures.

We began with a Liverwurst Trio plus German rye bread. Each of the three exhilarating varieties was pure heaven - unlike any liverwurst sold in delis. Next, the Sausage Quartet featured tangy smoked Bratwurst, savory Oktoberfest Bratwurst plus two mouthwatering frankfurters paired with homemade sauerkraut and a superb German Potato Salad produced in house by Mikemsan and Shelton, two very talented assistants.

The winter holidays are almost here so it was a pleasant surprise to see Santa on the wrapping of the uplifting Christmas Salami. Cuts of House Salami with Onions and Peppercorns added zestful touches as did the Westphalia Fingers and the Farmers Sausage. The Emmental cheese and gherkins brought more verve to this Holiday Feast.

Cold cuts are the stars of the Cold Cut Fantasy with slices of satiny Chicken Bologna, enticing Ham Bologna with Pistachios, and the aromatic Westphalia Ham.

The lighthearted flavors and textures of the Veal Bologna with Parsley and the Jamon contrasted perfectly with the Bienschinken Ham Bologna.

We have touched upon only a fraction of the more than one hundred items made in house. Homemade breads, rolls, pretzels and sweet treats are offered on Saturdays only. Christmas Hams, Boudin Blanc with Truffles (a Belgian sausage) and other specialties will be available this Holiday Season, so order in advance. You can also purchase rarely seen imported high-end European products. To learn more about Emil’s European Sausage Kitchen, log on to http://european-sausage.com.
