Obama vs. Romney

By Liz Sterling
Four years. 314 million citizens 240 million voters 50 states and one federal district 538 Electoral College votes This... is the 2012 United States Presidential Election

The stage is set for the 57th quadrennial United States Presidential Election, to be held on November 6th. We are counting down and emotions are heated. There is increasing tension in both camps. Romney is intent on taking the ball from Obama and is primed to run with it. Obama is intent on securing his footing and leading the nation for four more years. Yet we all know politics is a tricky business. So what can the Happy Herald offer during these demanding times? How about compass for you to rely upon as you get bandied about to strengthen your footing and help you remain upright.

There is a wonderful saying; the joy is in the journey. Let’s start there. Each moment we are alive, we have choices to make. How you conduct yourself is a choice. What you focus on is a choice. How you speak, and listen and act and vote. The election and the upcoming debates – especially the last debate on October 22, 2012, right here in South Florida at Lynn University, will elicit emotions – there is no debating that fact. What we have is choice. What will we do with what we hear, see, read and feel?

Let’s look at the candidates:

Former Massachusetts Governor Willard Mitt Romney is a man who appears to have it all. A vast personal fortune (a quarter billion dollars), a successful private career, a stint in public office, a perfect family life, a sharp mind, a charismatic personality, and, he is well coiffed eye candy. And now, after his nomination as President by the Republican Party, the 65-year old Romney is about to attempt to crown his phenomenal career by capturing the highest office in the land, the office of the President of the United States of America.

Barack Obama swept into office in 2008 under the banner of change and unity; two rallying cries that reinvigorated the electorate. He was armed with a war chest, accompanied by an army of politically outspoken leaders and a waning George W. Bush, his predecessor. Obama is exceptionally intelligent, articulate and possesses an old-school, hands-on approach to politics, knows what family values are and gives a sense of warmth and security to the troubled and uncertain. This campaign’s rallying cry asks the voters to look FORWARD.

Let us bear in mind that everything happens for a reason. Regardless of the outcome of this election, something else will be born anew. I believe each moment leading up to casting our vote –

1. Educate Yourself - Don´t buy into sound bites

2. Speak Up and Speak Out - it´s our right to be heard in America

3. Don´t Stereotype - Learn to listen and perceive from your heart

4. Be Proactive - Know you can make a difference

Here is your GPS to make this month -- better yet -- this election year and the rest of your life, truly inspiring! Oh and just a couple of more suggestions: Confirm today that you are registered to vote (see links below) and choose wisely when you vote, not from fear but from your heart!

Obama and Romney - What a choice.  Well, we know where Obama stands on most things even though we may not always agree with him.  I can't figure out Romney's stance on a lot of things though.  He had been running on cutting taxes.  But now he says he won't cut taxes.  He had been pro-abortion then he was pro-life but now he's pro-abortion again.  He was for health care, but now he's against it.  He was for medicare, but now he supports Ryan's plan to eliminate it.  He was for social security, but again he now supports Ryan's cynical plan to keep it for current seniors but end it for our children (and replace it with??).

I guess the only thing we know about Romney for sure is his stance on Israel.  He supports Israel.  But only because he's one of those Christians who believe that Israel has to become the country of Jesus for the second coming.  Support, yes, well kind of, but not the sort of support that makes for a healthy, safe, vibrant Israel.

So who to vote for?  Well, if I'm going to leave something behind for my kids I want it to be a world that cares about people and atsnds for something other than cynicism and wealth creation. It may not be a perfect choice, but I'll go with Obama again.

Mitt Romney likes to say he won't "apologize" for his success in business. But what he never says is "thank you" – to the American people – for the federal bailout of Bain & Company that made so much of his outsize wealth possible. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/the-federal-bailout-that-saved-mitt-romney-20120829#ixzz28qwRh9qk Romney’s Major Reversal On Foreign Aid http://thinkprogress.org/security/2012/10/08/973461/romneys-major-reversal-on-foreign-aid/?mobile=nc If the deniers had their way, we would ignore that Bush borrowed trillions of dollars from China taking a Clinton budget surplus and making it a budget deficit in order to finance two wars and a war machine without raising taxes http://3chicspolitico.com/2012/07/17/former-employees-of-bain-owned-companies-gst-steel-ampad-have-first-hand-expereinces-consequenes-of-mitt-romneys-leadership-sytle/

Obama will tout his foreign policy "decisions" at the debate. Here's one he won't mention -- that he supported a leadership change in Egypt during the Arab Spring.

From the WND 8/17/2012
Arab Spring run amok: 'Brotherhood' starts crucifixions
Opponents of Egypt's Muslim president executed 'naked on trees'

The Arab Spring takeover of Egypt by the Muslim Brotherhood has run amok, with reports from several different media agencies that the radical Muslims have begun crucifying opponents of newly installed President Mohammed Morsi.

Middle East media confirm that during a recent rampage, Muslim Brotherhood operatives “crucified those opposing Egyptian President Muhammad Morsi naked on trees in front of the presidential palace while abusing others.”

Mitt Romney never even managed a real business. He was a stock trader specialing in corporate takeovers. This short video explains how a corporate takeover works and who gets the profits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5us3uLU0tk4
