Chip Shortage – The Impact

By Teresa Aquila
Most of us have heard about the chip shortage and the havoc it is playing on the automobile industry. The silicon chip has been around since 1961, invented by two Americans, Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce. Their invention helped revolutionize and condense the modern computer chip of today.

Let’s summarize what chips are used for, from automobiles to your robotic vacuum, refrigerators and hot tubes, to your home’s electrical needs. A shortage of chips means less products to sell. With the holiday season upon us, getting or giving that special gift might be more on the list for 2022’s Christmas.

When will this all end?

Chipmaker Intel has stepped up to start producing for the automobile industry, and other chip companies have ramped up production to include building new factories. There is an end in sight! Happy Motoring.
