If you're feeling down about your love situation this Valentine's Day, a lesser-known yoga tradition can help.

By Kim Hough
Americans have dedicated one whole day to honor love, but in the yoga tradition, love is an entire practice. I challenge you to set aside your chocolates and your candy hearts this Valentine’s Day and instead try practicing Bhakti yoga. Bhakti yoga teaches us that it is through the heart that we feel connected to others on the planet, to the Divine… to ourselves. Simply put, Bhakti yoga happens when we stop our mental chatter and know that we are love.

Our human tendency often has us looking for approval and acceptance from our friends, our teachers, our partners, etc. but often we are still left feeling empty. The problem is that we’re looking for love in all the wrong places. This month celebrating Valentine’s Day, make self love important. No one can love you better than you can love yourself - nor can you love anyone else better than you can love yourself! Loving others more than you love yourself is an energy drain that lead stogreat disappointment, bitterness, anger, and resentment. Looking for love from others drains them and leads to feelings of dependency and ultimately emptiness. Self love demonstrates that we regard ourselves as worthy. When we regard ourselves as worthy, we treat ourselves accordingly in thought, word, and deed. Self-love comes from the heart and results in an open heart that allows you to experience and express the love you actually are. The more loving, kind, generous, and patient you are with yourself - the more these qualities will manifest in your relationships with others.

Yoga helps us create space to breathe, space for your organs to function more efficiently, space to feel, and space to love and breathe into whatever is happening in your life - space to remember that you are enough - exactly as you are. This love is the foundation of a good solid relationship with oneself!

Be your own Valentine and step into self-love on the mat at a free Community gentle yoga class at Bardot Salon and Spa Tuesday February 10 th at 6:30! RSVP to 561- 989-8011.
