Flavor of India

By Arnold Leir

A Scrumptious Addition to the Palm Beach Indian Scene

"Imaginative, contemporary and delectable” are the words that come to mind when reflecting upon our experience at the Flavor of India in Lake Worth. When you are in the mood for something more than a simple curry or a pair of samosas, then here is where you want to be for refined cuisine that is adventurous and totally delicious. In addition, the congenial staff does its utmost to make you feel like an honored guest.

The dramatic interior has a spacious, elegant feel. Tables and booths accented with bouquets of colorful flowers, crystalline goblets and gleaming silverware create an inviting ambiance. Crystal chandeliers are everywhere. A charming patio fronts the building and will be offering additional seating in the very near future.

The menu is as engaging as the dining room. There seems to be an implicit division between North and South Indian cuisine. Suffice it to say the menu appears to be overwhelming North Indian, with a select number of items gathered together under the South Indian rubric. In addition, the chefs prepare a variety of Indo-Chinese specialties. The menu contains also an entire section devoted to signature vegetarian entrees.

The food is a breathtaking explosion of aromas, flavors and textures, both cold and hot. What better way to start a feast than with the house’s refreshing and soothing Mango Lassie ($3.50), a carefully balanced blend of sweet mango and creamy yogurt.

The aroma and the texture of Dal Soup ($3.50) were the gateway to a fabulous afternoon buffet, particularly when partnered with a just baked Garlic Naan ($2.50), served piping hot from the tandoor.

The Lunch Buffet (Monday- Friday, 11:30 am to 2:30pm) is $8.95 while on the weekend (Saturday- Sunday, 11:30 am-3pm) it is $9.95. The dishes available on any occasion will vary from day to day; From the buffet table, we started with platters of plump Gob Pakoras filled with cuts of fresh cauliflower. The Tandoori Chicken, crisp and succulent, followed next, partnered with perfectly seasoned Basmati Rice.

The salad bar provided us with a varied selection of fresh veggies and a choice of chutneys and sauces. The mint chutney is an aromatic fantasy and the tamarind sauce is another winner. Goat Curry, cooked in a blend of tomatoes and spices, is a masterpiece and the Mattar Paneer (peas and cubes of cheese in a creamy sauce) is a must have. Several other selections were available, but we wanted to save some space for the enticing rice pudding.

Take out and delivery are available on a regular basis. The staff is also prepared to cater your next event or party. For more information visit Flavor of India’s dazzling website at www.flavorofindiafl. com.
