4. Do you have items in your home that you don’t use, but feel sentimental about?

a. Yes, I have a lot of sentimental items I can’t part with

b. Some, but I can let go of a few

c. No, I don’t hold onto items for sentimental reasons

5. How do you typically decide whether to keep or get rid of something?

a. I keep everything “just in case” I might need it later

b. I weigh whether it’s useful or not, but still find it hard to part with some things

c. I easily identify what’s useful and get rid of the rest

6. Do you find yourself buying duplicates of items you already have?

a. Yes, frequently

b. Sometimes, but I try to be careful

c. No, I’m careful about what I buy

7. How much time can you realistically spend decluttering each week?

a. I don’t have much time, maybe 30 minutes or less

b. I could dedicate a couple of hours here and there

c. I can set aside significant time, even a few hours a week

8. How many categories of items do you have that are scattered around your home (i.e. clothes, books, papers, kitchen items)?

a. Too many to count

b. A few categories, but they feel out of control

c. A manageable amount, everything has its place

9. Do you struggle to find things when you need them?

a. Yes, I can never find what I need

b. Sometimes, but I can usually figure it out

c. No, everything is easy to find

10. Would you consider asking for professional help to declutter (i.e. a pro organizer)?

a. Yes, I need someone to guide me

b. Maybe, but I feel like I should try it on my own first

c. No, I feel confident I can handle it myself

Scoring:

Mostly answer a: You may need significant help in decluttering. Feeling overwhelmed or avoiding the process is common, but with the right strategies and support, you can make progress.

Mostly answer b: You’re in the middle – you recognize the need to declutter, but might still face challenges. Setting aside consistent time and building habits could be helpful for you.

Mostly answer c: You’re already doing a great job at managing your space! Keep up the good work, and remember that small, regular maintenance can keep your home organized.

Now that you’ve tested, look around. What possible organizing might you do for the next 30 minutes? Time yourself and see how effective you can be once you are focused.

Until next month…. Clear the Clutter… Clear the Mind™
