Why do some have beautiful lives, while others do not?
Could it be they have applied themselves through creative imagination, hard work and perseverance? Yes, though a large piece is still missing. It is in service – and giving back to life with no thought of return – that the puzzle is completed.
To the undeveloped, service is a repugnant word and concept. Given the choice, rather than “wasting” time helping those less fortunate, they choose to help only themselves. While it is true that everything here is earned in the true coin, and that there is nothing free in this or any other world, there will still be times when every Soul needs a helping hand – whether they are plants, animals or people.
There is a vast gulf between those who give of themselves with no expectation of return, and those who simply give to get – to buy their way to greater abundance or entrance into heaven. To the discerning, there is a marked difference between squandering one’s resources, and offering service where it is needed and will do the most good. As there is only so much energy and resources at one’s disposal, it is wise to learn the difference.
There will always be spiritually bankrupt individuals on the prowl, eager to take from the easily misled. These unscrupulous misleaders can be found living in mansions, fat on fancy foods, and riding in luxury cars on the backs of the poor. In unrighteous sermons from their podiums, they use sin and guilt like a stick – pointing fingers and casting blame for the world’s problems on the downtrodden and displaced. Having no one’s best interest at heart, their only intention is to feather their own nest. Yet many are fooled into following.
It is fascinating that those who barely have enough are often first in line to give generously of themselves. In coin, in time, and in spirit, the Creator’s humble coworkers rarely notice their own lack – or even care. They are spiritual giants, heads and heels above the misleaders. These rare selfless souls, who have their being in the heart of the Creator, are already enjoying the rewards of peace, contentment, and a grateful spirit. For they live Soul’s purpose: to give and receive divine love.
Joy and happiness are always found in the profound act of giving service – to all God’s creatures, to those in need of a quiet listener, to those walking through the valley of shadows. Even one who builds a pond to beautify their surroundings is, at the same time, creating a haven to nourish, sustain, and serve the many beings who will come to rely on it. When we are guided by Spirit, two things may be true, and align at the same time!
