Polaris and Can Am Taking Service to Another Level

By Teresa Aquila

If you own an ATV manufactured by Polaris and Can Am, this article is a must. Manufacturers of automobiles and off-road vehicles are taking servicing your vehicle to another level.

For years, manufacturers have tried to protect their proprietary systems by making working on your own vehicles harder to do. Polaris and Can Am had joined the list. Proud Polaris owners found out the hard way what the Outback lockout is all about while traveling in the back country.

The vehicle popped up two engine codes, and the vehicle went into limp mode. Hundreds of miles from the nearest town, no cell service or dealer nearby, just red dirt and the open sky. The ATV would not move. They paid 40K for this particular model and were left stranded.

It appears Polaris, like a few other manufacturers, program the vehicles to almost stop moving when a problem arises. The only way to get the repair resolved is to transport your vehicle to the dealer.

Before you purchase an ATV, research into whether you can make certain repairs yourself. Otherwise, you may be left stranded. Happy Motoring.
