What is success? If one were to ask around, there would probably be as many different answers to that question as people asked. Some will say a Ferrari in the driveway, and no less than 10 million dollars in the bank. For others, their needs are far simpler and more spiritually aligned. For those Souls, success is measured simply by how content someone is, and how much love and joy one has in their life. Accordingly, some of the wealthiest people on the planet are often among the loneliest and saddest, while some of the poorest and most materially impoverished cultures are found to be the happiest and most content.
From a logical perspective – and even from a modestly higher one – spending all one’s time amassing wealth and hoarding material possessions far beyond what one could ever spend in a lifetime doesn’t make much sense, nor should it equate to success. Beyond being comfortable, chasing excessive wealth often complicates one’s life, distracting from appreciating the treasures one already possesses: close family, true friends, health, and meaningful connection.
When the insatiable appetite for success through material acquisition is stripped away, it often reveals a wounded individual - someone who has suffered emotional damage either in this life or another, and is now afraid to trust, to allow love and light to enter their life. But judge and pity not, for atternpting to fill a bottomless void caused by a closed-off and unnourished heart is not necessarily the mark of a spiritually undeveloped Soul. It is simply part of that Soul’s journey of discovery. We have all been hurt, destitute, and abandoned at different points throughout our many incarnations, and we have all taken wayward turns on our own paths back toward the simplicity of divine connection and unconditional love.
Though not always easily seen in the darkness, the cure for whatever ails humanity has always resided within the temple inside. For it is here that the connection to the Divine Current – which flows through all life - can be accessed. Regardless of financial wealth or physical health, though we are diverse, as Soul, we are all equal, each carrying the same potential to fashion a fulfilling and successful life, even if that life is one of simplicity, and nothing more than a greater capacity to love.
To prime the pump of the holy well within, one needs only to cultivate appreciation for what is truly important: the simple miracles found in everyday life. Truly joyful people are often the most grateful for the simple things that cost nothing at all – living in the moment, sharing time with loved ones, and enjoying close bonds, whether with people, dogs, cats, or even plants.
More is not always more, and less is not always less. To find greater success, assess what no longer brings joy – and let it go.
