Waterway Café

The Most Stunning Waterside Restaurant in Palm Beach

By Arnold Leir

Its picture-book Intracostal location looks and feels heavenly plus everything else about the Waterway Cafe speaks of topend gastronomy. This landmark Palm Beach Gardens restaurant is all about superlative upscale dining, from the contemporary furnishings and peerless professionalism of the staff to the stellar presentation of countless culinary masterpieces. Open with such masterstrokes such as the Gazpacho with its endearing broth enlivened with cucumber, onions, and tomatoes and capped with crunchy croutons and crème fraiche. “Irresistible” is the best way to describe the Wedge Salad featuring a stack of lettuce served with a delectable blend of shredded carrots, crumbled bacon, blue cheese, red onion, touches of hard boiled egg and a glorious blue cheese dressing.

Indoor and on the spacious patios, the wine glasses glow with incomparable vintages drawn from around the globe. By the glass or the bottle, the prices are enticing as are the signature drinks from the bars.

Such is the appeal of the Café that Lunch is almost as busy as Dinner. Within a few minutes the gracious manager, Richard Gagliardi, seated us near the charming Tiki Bar at a table with a spectacular view of the gently flowing Intracostal. Seafood plays a starring role, so expect a cavalcade of thrilling signature dishes such as the Tuna Poke with heaps of sushi grade Tuna partnered with rice, ginger scented veggies, pickled ginger, seaweed, crispy tidbits, wakame and wasabi cream. Another triumph, the Baja Tuna Wrap, embellishes the seafood with pico de gallo, field greens, sriracha aoli and a blend of cheeses. The pristine flavors of the grilled Mahi topped with lettuce and tomato shine through every morsel.

Pizzas, signature steak creations and more complement the seafood offerings. The Malibu Melt, for example. is a magnificent tortilla wrap stuffed with grilled chicken, red pepper, onion , portabella mushroom and pepper jack cheese, Leave space for the astounding showpiece dessert, Snickers Explosion, a towering frozen fantasy more than a foot high crafted from layers of chocolate cake, Snickers and Reese’s infused ice cream. Strawberries, dabs of whipped cream and a scattering of crunchy toppings make this frosty gem every child’s dream treat that all adults can enjoy. The sheer joy of dining at this paragon of haute cuisine is without equal.

The Early Bird menu is available every day from 4 to 5:30 pm. Enjoy Happy Hour (Mon-Fri, 4 to 6:30 pm) featuring a luscious bar menu and half priced drinks. Live music on the weekend will make every nibble even more memorable. Sunday Breakfast Brunch (9am -12 pm) is peerless. Catering is available upon request.
