Is Your Mobile Phone Safe From Phishing?

By Teresa Aquila
Your mobile phone is no longer just for receiving calls – it transforms from your phone to making your payments, shopping online, ordering Uber, and even shopping for a car.

In the past year, 15 percent of all auto dealerships have experienced cybersecurity incidents exposing customers’ personal information to those phishing. This is becoming a serious problem for many, and damaged credit can be challenging to repair.

Remember to only use secured Wi-Fi when away from home.

The FTC has developed the Safeguards Rule compliance measures that dealerships must comply with to help protect consumers. This defines customer information as “any record containing nonpublic personal information about a customer of a financial institution, whether in paper, electronic, or other form, that is handled or maintained by or on behalf of you or your affiliates.”

For more information on the Safeguards Rule, go to https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/ftc-safeguards-rulewhat-your-business-needs-know. Keeping your personal data private is key. Happy Motoring.
