The Impromptu NASCAR Track

By Teresa Aquila
With the nonexistence of driver’s education in our schools, how often do you hold your breath in hopes of making it home safely while running an errand or heading to or from work? Imagine driving along the highway when a single car zooms past you at lightning speed. Suddenly, it’s like a contagious phenomenon takes hold, as other drivers join in, thinking they’ve stumbled upon a secret NASCAR track. Engines roar, tires screech, and the road transforms into a whirlwind of impromptu racing. But amidst the adrenaline-fueled excitement, it’s important to remember that public roads aren’t meant for high-speed racing.

Safety should always take precedence over the temporary thrill of pretending to be a NASCAR driver. So, stay in control, maintain a safe speed, and let the imaginary racers have their moment, while you focus on arriving safely at your destination.

I know COVID-19 caused fear in many, but what did it do to the brain cells of some drivers? It is as if they were transformed from law-abiding citizens, to ninja warriors charging into war. We continue to have a national crisis of roadway deaths; we all play a role in reversing these trends. Please drive safely – your life, or someone else’s depends on it. Happy Motoring.
