If you want to know how a child feels in a candy factory (Willy Wonka won´t do it) make a visit to that utterly charming treat emporium, Chocolates by Mr Roberts.

Celebrities (Henry Fonda, Donald Trump), universities, businesses and chocoholics know about Mr. Roberts located at the end of a collection of shops on the North West corner of Federal Highway and Twentieth Street in Boca Ration (across from Fifth Avenue Shops)..

Quality is the key to this shop´s longevity. The founder of Mr. R o b e r t s , H e i n z R o b e r t Goldschnider, developed his unique family recipes in the crucible of the Swiss chocolate industry. His creations brought him fame in Manhattan and praise in top magazines. In 1982, he moved to Boca Raton and in 2007 he passed the torch to Michelle Zander. Her gracious husband, Steve, gave me my first introduction to Mr. Roberts dark chocolate bark.

The White Truffle is a master-piece of subtlety and texture, so rich, yet so lighthearted (this signature creation worn awards at New York and Palm Beach Chocolate Festivals) The English Toffee offers a delightful contrast with its crisp texture and crunchy nut topping. I have a passion for chocolate turtles and the pair I savored is the yummiest I have ever had.

There is almost an infinite number of choices, but what is most remarkable is that each specialty is made in small batches. The freshness of each tray is visible as you move from Glazed Apricots or Orange Peel dipped in chocolate, to handmade Almond and Pecan Clusters. Check out the Truffles, Barks, Pretzels- the assortment is astounding If you have ever shopped at high end department stores or purveyors of gourmet candies, you will notice that the chocolates for sale are often presented in small ounce packages so as not to frighten you with the astronomical price they are charging for their well advertised sweets. By weight, many of these gilt edge brands go for $55 per pound. By comparison, a fabulous one pound assortment at Mr. Roberts prepared from the finest ingredients costs $27 and is infinitely fresher.

Holidays have always been a source of inspiration for chocolatiers.

Mothers´ Day is an occasion for that special gift of sweets that pay homage to devoted moms, wives and other loved ones. I was particularly impressed with the dark chocolate rose that was so imaginative in its craftsmanship and so enticing in its fragrance.

Check out the regal website at www.chocolatesbymrroberts.com to get an in depth view of the many superbly assorted favorites assembled in aesthetically pleasing packages. Also on the website, you will find a link to the company´s facebook pages containing fantastic displays of Easter, Christmas, Valentine creations and more.
