Oishii  Japanese & Hibachi Restaurant

Enjoy Delectable Cuisine with Heavenly Bubble Tea

By Arnold Leir
Bubbles, bubbles everywhere: in champagne, soda, beer and now in a delightful form in tea. Boca Raton’s Oishii Japanese Restaurant, has twenty delectable varieties of the uniquely crafted Bubble Tea. What is notable is that the bubbles are tiny spheres of satiny soft tapioca which are sipped through an extra wide straw. Our thrilling serving used jasmine tea as the base enhanced with mango flavoring resulting in a smooth beverage that had all the excitement of a fresh fruit delight. Once you try Oishii’s Bubble Tea, your perspective on tea will never be the same.

Open only four months, this latest addition to the growing number of upscale enterprises in The Shops at University Park located on North West 20th Street, has an airy, modern urban ambiance enlivened with an imaginative use of space, lighting and a spectacular open kitchen. Expect an enticing array of small plates and boards overflowing with gourmet treats.

The flavors of the Japanese specialties hit all the high notes. The sashimi is sensational while the rolls will have you looking for more. Hibachi masters generate gloriously seared beef, chicken and shrimp partnered with sides of your choice.

The enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff under the supervision of General Manager, Eve, can’t do enough to satisfy every request.

The appetizer section of the colorful menu offers an expertly deigned collection of Japanese classics grouped into two sections: Appetizers from rhe Kitchen and Appetizers from the Sushi Bar. The prices are phenomenally low, yet provide the level of quality seen a more expensive Japanese restaurants. Our order of Vegetable Gyoza, consisting of six perfectly steamed dumplings packed with a supremely divine filling, was only $3.75. I doubt that you could march the price of the openers at any other gourmet Japanese restaurant in Boca Hibachi aficionados will adore the grilled combos all of which include a bowl of soothing onion soup and a vibrant salad topped with the in house crafted ginger dressing. For our mains, we opted for a combination of shrimp and steak partnered with crunchy vegetables and savory noodles. The flavor and texture of the plump crustaceans were glorious as were those of the perfectly seared steak.

There are three sushi bar entrees that are worth every penny. Our selection, the Sushi, Sashimi Combo, is a feast that delivers nine pieces of assorted luscious sashimi, five pieces of super-flavorful sushi and a dazzling spicy tuna roll.

You can enhance each platter with superb wine, beer and saki specials. Oishii has a separate menu for its awesome signature rolls. Enjoy Happy Hour from 7:30 to 9 pm with special drink discounts. Bento Boxes (chicken and seafood) are also available. For more information, log onto oishiibocaraton.com.
